Help with court interpreters

Working with interpreters in courts will be presented next month by Chief Justice Bowskill, Judge Horneman-Wren SC, Deputy Chief Magistrate Gett, Magistrate Balic, Senior Registrar Mohamed Bensghir and interpreters Sumeet Kaur and Lynn Geng.

The practical seminar is intended to assist lawyers, judicial officers and interpreters.

It will address the guidelines for working with interpreters in courts, practical tips from judicial officers in relation to working with interpreters in civil trials, criminal proceedings (trials and sentences), Magistrates Court proceedings, including short mentions, and interpreting through the use of audio-visual technology.

There will be tips from the Registry perspective as well as insight from professional interpreters as to what lawyers and judicial officers can do to help them to provide their important services.

The seminar will be held on Thursday, 11 April, from 5pm to 6.15pm at Banco Court, Supreme Court of Queensland, QEII Courts of Law, 415 George Street, Brisbane.

There is no registration needed to attend. If practitioners have Court ID cards, it would be beneficial if they could bring them which will assist with the security process.
