Retired magistrate Colin Strofield is one of two Queenslanders in the legal profession to be recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List.
Mr Strofield was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to the law, which included more than 16 years presiding in Brisbane, Charleville, Holland Park and Southport, including in the Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Court.
On his retirement in 2024, he was saluted for his efforts to address domestic and family violence.
Gold Coast practitioner Ross Lee was also appointed an OAM for service to the law and the community.
The Lee Lawyers Principal, who was a Queensland Law Society Access to Justice and Pro Bono Committee member from 2020-2024, has been in practice for more than 25 years.
His achievements include being founding president of My Community Legal, a member of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, a former president of the Gold Coast District Law Association, governing director of the Mudgeeraba Foundation, and a former QLS Counsellor.
Also recognised with an OAM appointment was late Brisbane historian Helen Gregory, for service to community history.
Mrs Gregory published a history of the Queensland Law Society and presented The Queensland Law Society: Serving conscientious honest lawyers at a 2023 Selden Society Lecture to mark the Society’s 150th anniversary.
In the Meritorious Awards category of the Honours List, Administrative Review Tribunal Chief Operating Officer Jamie Crew received a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service in leadership and driving organisational reform in Commonwealth and state courts and tribunals.
