An update this afternoon from Queensland Courts advises that, from tomorrow until further notice:
Adults
- There is no impediment to matters involving prisoners coming to court directly from Townsville and Lotus Glen Correctional Centres as usual.
- Most matters involving prisoners in person from elsewhere are unlikely to proceed. Those where videoconferencing has already been arranged should be able to proceed.
- Jury panels should be called in to commence trials involving accused on bail but not in custody.
- Sentences of people on bail can also proceed as usual tomorrow, irrespective of whether the person may be sentenced to custody.
Children
No change.
Queensland Courts advises practitioners to ensure that the instructions above align with the expectations of the presiding judge wherever possible.
