Rostron Carlyle appoints Michael Smith as Property Partner

Rostron Carlyle Lawyers has appointed Michael Smith as Partner, marking a significant milestone in the continued growth of the firm’s Property Practice Group.

Mr Smith steps into the partnership role after serving as Special Counsel in the property team for three years, where he has played a key role in advising clients across complex property and commercial matters.

He brings more than 18 years’ experience as a property lawyer, with deep expertise across commercial property transactions and development projects.

Managing Partner Greg Rostron said Mr Smith’s elevation reflected both his technical expertise and his long-standing contribution to the firm.

“Michael has been an integral part of our property practice for three years,” Mr Rostron said.

“His promotion to Partner is recognition of the leadership, commercial insight and client commitment he brings to every matter. He exemplifies the values of Rostron Carlyle Lawyers.”

Throughout his time at the firm, Mr Smith has advised developers, investors, landlords and commercial clients across a broad spectrum of property transactions and disputes.

His experience spans commercial, industrial and retail leasing, off-the-plan development projects, commercial, industrial and residential property acquisitions and disposals, conducting due diligence investigations on land acquisitions, community titles (body corporate) structuring & compliance advice and preparation of land (put/call) options.

Mr Smith said he was proud to step into the partnership at a pivotal time for the firm.

“It’s an honour to join the partnership at Rostron Carlyle Lawyers,” he said.

“Having worked closely with Greg, Hamish and the broader team over the past three years, I’ve seen firsthand the strength of our client relationships and the depth of expertise across the firm.

“I’m excited to continue growing our property practice and supporting our clients through every stage of their projects and investments.”

Mr Smith’s promotion comes as Rostron Carlyle Lawyers continues to strengthen its multidisciplinary offering across litigation, commercial, property, criminal law and insolvency. The firm is approaching its 25th year in business in July and remains focused on strategic growth across its core practice areas.

Partner Hamish Carlyle added: “Michael’s appointment reinforces our commitment to building from within and recognising exceptional talent. Our property practice is a critical part of the firm’s offering, and under Michael’s leadership, we are well positioned to expand further.”
