Following a recruitment and selection process with a third party consultancy which commenced in August this year, QLS Council has resolved to appoint Matt Dunn as the next QLS CEO starting on 6 March 2024 on the conclusion of current CEO Rolf Moses’ six-year term.

Mr Dunn, currently QLS General Manager of Advocacy, Guidance and Governance, has been a leader at QLS for many years.

Matt joined the QLS from private practice in 2005 as the Policy and Research Officer where he re-established the QLS policy team. He became Principal Policy Officer growing the policy and committee function until September 2014 when he left to join the Law Council of Australia in the new position of Director of Policy.

Upon returning to Queensland in late 2015, he became Principal Advisor of Government Relations, focusing on leading government and stakeholder liaison. Matt took over as Acting CEO of QLS in February 2017 and worked to prepare the organisation for the commencement of Rolf Moses as CEO in March 2018.

QLS President Chloé Kopilović said: “The standard of applications for the role was very high and we attracted a broad range of leaders.

“Matt’s appointment recognises his expertise in the profession and deep knowledge and understanding of the Society and justice sector. He has been a key leader for many years at QLS and the appointment ensures the continued growth and strategic success of the Society in our service to the profession and members.”

Mr Dunn said he was looking forward to the challenge of the role and working with the Council, QLS staff, members and stakeholders to deliver QLS operational and strategic priorities.

“I am fortunate that my many years at QLS, and with the Law Council of Australia have given me insights into the profession, the challenges and opportunities we face and the day to day priorities,” he said.

“I am grateful for the Council’s faith in me and I look forward to leading the next chapter of QLS which has prospered under Rolf’s leadership and building upon our strong offerings to members.”

CEO Rolf Moses praised the recruitment process undertaken by the Council saying: “We are now in the ideal position, with a terrific appointment in Matt, to manage a seamless and effective handover leading up to March 2024.

“Until then it’s very much business as usual.”
