Practitioners will have the chance to hear from one of the state’s sharpest legal minds for Queensland Mental Health Week next month.
Supreme Court Justice Kerri Mellifont, who is also President of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, will present at the Queensland Law Society’s Mental Health Breakfast in Brisbane on Thursday, 10 October.
Her Honour will share her lived experience and offer practical strategies to support mental health and wellbeing in the law.
She will offer insights from her career which includes being Senior Legal Officer at the Forde Inquiry into Child Abuse), Senior Counsel Assisting the Queensland Floods Commission (2011) and Senior Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (2019-2021).
Justice Mellifont will be joined by Nick Dore, Managing Principal of Fisher Dore Lawyers, Accredited Specialist (Criminal Law), and member of the QLS Criminal Law Committee; and Mishelle Zara, Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager, Converge International (LawCare).
The event will be chaired by Belinda Winter, Partner, Workplace Relations & Safety, Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers; and Chair of the QLS Wellbeing Working Group.
