North Queensland Women’s Legal Service (NQWLS) has hit the road, visiting sites from Mackay to Mount Isa to Mossman to deliver services across the top half of Queensland.
During July and August, NQWLS staff have been dropping in to Townsville, Mackay, Ayr, Charters Towers, Ingham, Mt Isa, Mareeba, Mossman, Atherton, Tully and Innisfail.
In a first for the service, Weipa has also made the list. Service staff have held a stall at the Apunipima Health and Wellness Expo, and met with staff at Weipa Community Care Centre.
The centre runs a safe house for women escaping domestic and family violence, including those living in Mapoon and Napranum.
After seeing the demand in the region, NQWLS aims to expand its outreach later in the year.
