QLRC review team surveying regions

Regional practitioners are being invited to give feedback to the Queensland Law Reform Commission (QLRC) for its review of non-fatal strangulation laws.

The review team will hold consultations in Goondiwindi today and Toowoomba tomorrow, then Ipswich on Monday, Cairns and Townsville on 19-22 May, and Torres Strait and Bamaga on 19-23 May.

At the end of the month, the team will head to South Burnett (Cherbourg, Kingaroy and Murgon) and the Wide Bay-Burnett area, before heading to the Cape (including Aurukun, Coen, Hopevale, Cooktown, Wujal Wujal and Mossman) next month.

Consultations have been held in Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Beenleigh.

The review is looking at the offence of choking, suffocation or strangulation in a domestic setting, to help reform Section 315A of the Queensland Criminal Code.

If practitioners cannot make the allocated dates and locations, and want to provide input, or arrange a private meeting, they can email qlrc-nfsreview@justice.qld.gov.au.
