Solicitor applying detail to dance floor

Lawyer Natalie Powell, with her dance partner John Cahill, is ready to sparkle at the Dancing CEOs fundraiser.

Powell Family Law Principal Solicitor Natalie Powell is known for her attention to detail which should come in handy as she perfects ballroom dance steps for the Dancing CEOs fundraiser this week.

The black-tie event and Women’s Legal Service Queensland fundraiser will be held on Saturday, 31 May, at 6pm at Brisbane City Hall.

The Brisbane solicitor, who works primarily in family law and domestic violence litigation, has strong ties to the WLSQ where she once worked and has volunteered for more than a decade.

She is paired with Brisbane-based barrister John Cahill, and they have often worked together, forming a formidable team.

According to sources, John’s engaging presence and quick wit perfectly complement Natalie’s attention to detail and meticulous preparation.

John works primarily in family law and criminal law where he is committed to pro bono work, regularly representing WLSQ clients as well as acting for many Queensland Legal Aid clients.

The eleventh year of the popular event will see 19 CEOs from across the east coast dance and fundraise to contribute much-needed funds for WLSQ, which is celebrating 41 years in 2025.

WLSQ CEO Nadia Bromley thanked the diverse cast of CEOs for getting involved to help the frontline community legal assistance service answer more calls and offer greater support to women and children escaping domestic and family violence.

“Our dream is for every woman who reaches out for help to be answered, heard and supported,” Nadia said.

“Devastatingly, we continue to leave calls unanswered because the sheer volume exceeds our staffing capacity.

“We are so very grateful for this year’s CEOs committing to fundraise individual performer or group because that money will ensure we can support more women.”

Dancing CEOs has raised $4,388,399 in a decade, allowing WLSQ to provide free advocacy, reform and support for more than 150,000 women and thousands more children.

“Every woman deserves a chance for a safe future with her children; this year’s CEOs will help make that a reality,” Nadia said.

Each year, WLSQ assists more than 3200 women and children in need, however resource constraints mean that at least 16,000 more women who attempt to access the service remain unassisted.

Money raised by Dancing CEOs 2024 will help WLSQ to have an additional Financial Abuse Prevention Unit worker in the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Ipswich offices – changing the lives of at least 350 more women each year.

Gala Mezzanine/Balcony tickets are still available along with tickets in the multi-draw raffle.
