Queensland Law Society wellness initiative LawCare has added a limited-edition game to its resource kit ahead of the holiday season.
The LawCare promotional kit includes a new limited edition LawCare Connect4 game, A4 Posters, magnets and QLS chocolate for workplaces.
QLS Legal Workplace and Culture Consultant Stephanie Cowie said the services and support offered by LawCare are important aids and help encourage practitioners to seek assistance.
“Wellness Initiatives like this help to start conversations and helps potentially direct people to get the help that they need,” she said.
“We know that, in regard to mental health and well-being, the rates of anxiety and depression are very high in the legal profession.
“So, encouraging people to have those conversations is really important.”
LawCare offers 24-hour access to confidential support from qualified professionals and its services are available for firms of any size, including in-house legal teams, community legal centres and law faculties.
Byrne Lawyers Legal Practitioner Director Kylie Devney said she actively encourages staff to access LawCare periodically.
“As an employer, I am beyond grateful to have that tool available to support my staff,” she said.
“We work in a really tough industry, and we want to make sure our team is prioritising mental health and self-care and removing the stigma around seeking assistance, we lead by example.
“We have used LawCare to assist with specific work-related issues in our team as well and have successfully resolved issues and progressed together.”
Stephanie said this launch, designed to coincide with the holiday period, was useful as legal professionals can sometimes forget “that you need to take time to fill your own cups”.
“It’s very hard for lawyers to stop when they’re not used to having those breaks,” she said
“You need to take time and know what brings you joy and positive energy.”
There are 100 of these kits available to QLS members that can be requested online.
