The long and troubled history of domestic and family violence will be the focus of the third lecture in the Selden Society Lecture Series in Brisbane next month.
University of New South Wales Senior Lecturer in Criminology Andy Kaladelfos, who is the co-convenor of the Gendered Violence Research Network, will speak about a study to map the contours of interpersonal violence in Australian history and the criminal law’s responses.
Dr Kaladelfos will explain how domestic and family violence was recognised and responded to across a 100-year period (1855-1954), how this compared to other forms of violence, and where historical lessons may reveal new pathways for prevention and response.
The lecture series, hosted by the Supreme Court Library Queensland on behalf of the Selden Society – Australian Chapter, is an annual program of free lectures featuring prominent and renowned guest speakers covering a range of topics focused on legal heritage.
This lecture, which will also be livestreamed, will be held in the Banco Court, on Thursday, 6 August, at 5.15pm for 5.30pm start.
