Commissioner to highlight latest Closing the Gap data

Productivity Commissioner Selwyn Button and Assistant Commissioner Amanda Meric will highlight key takeaways at next week’s webinar on the Closing the Gap 2026 Annual Data Compilation Report and July dashboard updates.

The 14 August webinar follows the release of the ADCR and dashboard update on 29 July 2026.

The report tracks Australia’s performance towards the targets and indicators in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, and incorporates the latest data.

The 2026 ADCR presents new data for nine socio-economic targets and 34 supporting indicators. It also reports a further 12 supporting indicators for the first time.

Also for the first time, the ADCR has been able to incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-governed data.

This year’s report continues to show mixed progress across the 19 targets: one target has been met, three are on track to be met, and outcomes for a further five targets have improved but are not on track.

Two targets are assessed as having no change from the baseline year, while outcomes for four socio-economic targets are worsening. The Productivity Commission is still unable to assess progress against four targets.

The deadline for meeting most of the targets is 2031.

The webinar runs from 1-2pm and registrations are open.
