Law of cyber warfare, data centres in spotlight at free lecture

Cyber warfare will be placed in the spotlight next month at a free lecture hosted by the International Law Association in Brisbane.

Brisbane barrister Scott Robinson, of Level Twenty Seven Chambers, will be joined by Judge Advocate General, Supreme Court Justice Paul Smith, to present Data centres, cyber warfare and the law at the Banco Court and online on Monday, 9 November.

Mr Robinson will examine the legal framework governing cyber warfare and its implications for Australian data centre policy.

Applying orthodox principles of interpretation, he will argue that data is an “object” under the laws of armed conflict and consider what this means for data centre policy, targeting protocols and the development of cyber weapons.

Justice Smith will chair the lecture and provide commentary, with in-person attendees able to ask questions.

The lecture, worth one CPD point, will be held from 5.30pm to 6.45pm.
