Settlement ends billboard dispute

The dispute over an electric billboard in inner Brisbane had ended with a confidential settlement.

Brisbane City Council has abandoned its appeal to the High Court in relation to a complaint by property owner and litigation lawyer Richard Leahy about the 11-metre-high structure, which was erected in front of his Red Hill home in 2020.

Mr Leahy filed proceedings in 2021 over the council failing to consult him before approving the billboard, which he argued affected the amenity and value of his property.

A Supreme Court decision in his favour last year was unsuccessfully appealed by the council, which then applied to the High Court this year.
