FNQLA aims to inspire

Maurice Blackburn Principal Tanya Straguszi will speak at an International Women's Day breakfast in Cairns on Friday.

Far North Queensland Law Association (FNQLA) will look to inspire and include at its International Women’s Day Breakfast on Friday.

Guest speaker Tanya Straguszi will talk about her role as Principal at Maurice Blackburn, where all regional offices are run by women.

A Cairns local, Tanya was Women Lawyers Association of Queensland Regional Lawyer of the Year in 2019, and is a former FNQLA president.

She said a key step to promoting inclusion was to lead by example, especially from the top.

“In Queensland, female solicitors outnumber their male counterparts, yet sadly we do not see the same level of representation at the Queensland Bar or within the judiciary,” she said.

“In leadership roles more broadly, women make up fewer than one in six of the chief executives and managing directors in our state.

“We need to see more senior female voices in the legal profession and our businesses to reflect the community they are serving.”

The FNQLA International Women’s Day Breakfast will be Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort from 7.30am to 9am on Friday. Details here.
