Profession puts best foot forward

Last year’s Queensland Legal Walk raised more than $100,000 to support LawRight’s access to justices services and had more than 1000 participants across the state.

This year’s LawRight event will be held at 7am on Tuesday, 14 May for National Pro Bono Day and as part of National Law Week. It is both a fundraiser and an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the valuable pro bono work undertaken by the legal profession.

Led by the Chief Justice of Queensland, the walk is a 5km circuit around Brisbane, and other regional cities, starting and finishing at the QEII Courts Building, followed by coffee and brief speeches.

Walks are held in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Tamborine Mountain and Cairns. Participants are also welcome to walk for pro bono around their local neighbourhood.

The Walk raises funds for LawRight services and the Disbursement Fund. LawRight coordinates strategic pro bono to provide access to justice to help people facing homelessness, people representing themselves in court, and in public interest legal cases.

The walk is supported by the judiciary, barristers, law firms, law schools and the wider legal profession. It started in 2008, making this the 17th annual walk.

Registrants can register individually or as a team at www.qldlegalwalk.org.au
