On winning the inaugural Pro Bono Team of the Year Award, HopGoodGanim Lawyers Partner Leanne Collingburn urged others to “share their excellence”.

The Head of Pro Bono at HopgoodGanim collected the trophy at the Queensland Law Society Excellence in Law Awards on Saturday night, acknowledging the category was “a team award”.

“I also want to acknowledge the QLS for the criteria for this award. It very much focuses on the impact and outcomes of our pro bono work not our inputs so not our number of pro bono hours which is really important,” Leanne said.

“At HopgoodGanim we are proud to focus on the impact, and the best way to measure the impact of our pro bono work, is from the feedback we get from our clients.

“So I do want to thank all of our clients who give us the privilege every day to work with them. In particular I want to thank the Lady Musgrave Trust for nominating us for this award tonight.

“I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks, to belong to this profession, the legal profession, for all of those who are here tonight as nominees and finalists, you are excellent.

“For those supporting nominees and finalists you are also excellent by association so congratulations to you as well.

“Can I just please ask that come Monday morning would you please share your excellence with someone who otherwise can’t afford your legal services or consistent with the last award speaker recipient, please share your excellence with the community legal sector because they really need your support.”

Another firm to win a team award on the night was Results Legal as Employer of Choice, supported by award winner legalsuper.

Managing Director Karl Hill said “as leaders the most important thing that we can do is to promote our people and provide a supportive environment where they can perform their best work and to thrive”.

“Also we know the best teams are diverse teams and to build strong, diverse teams we have to have a genuine commitment to equal opportunity and have to the flexibility to allow people from a diverse range of backgrounds to be their best.

“I’d like to thank the entire Results Legal team, and in particular principals and leadership team for their commitment around living our values and creating a really good culture which we can all be proud to be part of.
