It was a full house on Friday at the Sofitel Brisbane Central, where the Queensland Law Society’s first combined Family and Criminal Law Conference attracted practitioners from around the state.
Speakers at the full-day event included Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) Judge Samantha Murdoch, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1) Justice Jacoba Brasch, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Senior Judicial Registrar Anne-Marie Rice, Magistrate Cameron McKenzie, and barristers Andrew Hoare KC and Michael Drysdale KC.
Sessions across the conference’s three tracks – Criminal Law, Family Law, and Domestic and Family Violence – covered topics such as sexual violence case management; advocacy; the solicitor and counsel relationship; and community safety and youth justice.
QLS CEO Matt Dunn presented a session, with QLS Ethics Special Counsel Shane Budden, on new Anti-Money Laundering provisions.
“It was really great to see a packed house for the Family and Criminal Law Conference and a privilege to speak to the group about the impact of the looming AML/CTF legislation on the legal profession,” Matt said.
“QLS conferences do so much more than just provide CPD points – it was a good opportunity to catch up with colleagues, hear from leaders in our profession and critically, start to think about things just over the horizon that will affect practice in the near future.”
Recordings of the sessions will soon be available for purchase in the QLS Shop.
