The rights of indigenous Australians in conservation will be the focus of the next instalment of James Cook University’s (JCU) Law Seminar Series.
JCU Law Professor Gary Meyers will explore the debate over the cultural rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to hunt and fish for endangered species, such as turtles and dugongs, in North Queensland.

Professor Meyers will examine how these rights are exercised and regulated under federal and state laws, highlighting the potential for better regulation to balance cultural traditions and conservation efforts.
