Travis Schultz & Partners (TSP) has expanded its North Queensland team with the appointment of Kylie Walmsley as Associate Lawyer in the Cairns office.
Kylie brings six years of personal injury litigation experience, specialising in workplace and motor vehicle injuries, public liability and disability claims.
Having grown up in North Queensland and honing her expertise in WorkCover claims, she understands the unique challenges faced by injured workers in the region.
“As a local myself, I know how difficult it can be to navigate the claims process when you’re based outside of a major city and have reduced access to specialists and services. I’m excited to use my experience to help people in the region secure the right medical care and financial support to improve long-term outcomes,” Kylie said.
Kylie has also distinguished herself as one of Queensland’s youngest personal injury lawyers to run a Supreme Court trial in a WorkCover claim. At 23, she successfully instructed counsel in the case of Longbottom v L & R Collins [2021] QSC 242.
“Having that experience so early in my career has given me the confidence to handle complex matters. I’m always prepared to go to trial if it means securing the best outcome for my clients,” she said.
TSP Partner and Cairns Leader Beth Rolton said Kylie’s appointment strengthened the firm’s ability to support local clients with specialised, on-the-ground expertise.
“Kylie’s in-depth knowledge of WorkCover claims is invaluable, especially when advising clients at the active treatment stage. Strategic guidance at this point ensures they maximise their entitlements and make informed decisions about their recovery,” Beth said.
Beth emphasised the importance of regional expertise in personal injury law, particularly for clients in remote areas who face additional hurdles when navigating compensation claims.
“In North Queensland, injured workers often struggle to access medical specialists and legal advice without travelling long distances. Having a local legal expert like Kylie, who understands these challenges and can provide tailored support, makes a significant difference in achieving fair outcomes for our clients and ultimately in their recovery.”
Kylie, who completed her Bachelor of Laws in 2018 and was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2020, now practises across a full suite of personal injury compensation claims. Her career includes experience in medical negligence cases and advocacy for clients affected by poorly regulated cosmetic procedures. She also volunteered at the North Queensland Women’s Legal Service, reinforcing her commitment to accessible legal support.
