Queensland Law Reform Commission (QLRC) Chair Fleur Kingham is hoping for practitioner and stakeholder input on a consultation paper as part of its review of the non-fatal strangulation offence.
‘A holistic review of the non-fatal strangulation offence’, released on Friday, contains three proposals for reform and eight questions about potential reform, related to Section 315A of the Criminal Code Act 1899 (Qld).

The Chair said the commission’s preliminary view was that several reforms were needed.
“We need to ensure Queensland’s laws are safe, just and effective, and reflect the seriousness of non-fatal strangulation,” she said.
Meeting and forums to provide feedback on the one-year review are being held across the state in April, May and June.
