A workshop, Human Rights and Housing: A Beginner’s Guide, is planned next week for those new to the Human Rights Act 2019 (QLD) and who want to understand how it applies to housing and homelessness services.
The Queensland Council of Social Services (QCOSS) Human Rights Network and expert guest speakers from the Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC), Queensland Law Society (QLS), and Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion (QAI) will address the workshop in the Human Rights and Housing series on Tuesday, 13 May from 1-3pm.
Designed for those with little or no prior knowledge of the Act, this interactive session will provide a solid foundation in human rights principles and their practical application within the housing and homelessness sector.
Key learning outcomes will be the purpose and scope of the Human Rights Act 2019 (QLD) and becoming familiar with the 23 sections; essential terminology and concepts related to human rights law; exploring how the Act applies to organisational responsibilities; and gaining an insight into a Human Rights Compatibility Assessment process.
This session would suit frontline workers, team leaders and service providers who want to build their confidence in human rights-respecting practice.
Registrations for this online workshop are now open.
