Long-serving notary public mourned

Neil McPherson was a Fellow of the Society of Notaries of Queensland and had served as a Council member.

Neil Athol McPherson OAM FQSN – 19 February 1942 to 3 June 2025

It is with much sadness and regret that the Society of Notaries of Queensland announces the passing of Neil Athol McPherson.

Neil passed from this world to the next on the third of June. He was 83 years old.

Neil had been a solicitor of the Supreme Courts of both Queensland and New South Wales and was also admitted to the High Court of Australia.

He was a Fellow of the Society of Notaries of Queensland and had served as a council member for many of those years. He had practised as a Notary Public for just over 45 years.

He had also been appointed as a Reader of the Archives of the Official Library of the Ecclesiastical Courts of the Bishops Palace in London.

He was a life member of both Apex and the Ashmore Rotary Club.

He had received the Paul Harris acknowledgement for his services to Rotary.

He was awarded the OAM in June 2023.

Neil was one of “the good guys”.

He was always willing to help and was a man who took his achievements seriously. He loved his music and had an extensive and eclectic collection of vinyl.

He enjoyed a drop of good red and his conversation was not just one of a classical education but of worldly instruction.

Neil is survived by Lynn, his wife of 60 years, and their children Glen and Scott and their daughter-in-law Angela, (widow of their son Kirk).

He will be truly missed but his contribution to life will be remembered.
