With 1510 lawyers practising on the Gold Coast, it is “a powerful number”, according to Gold Coast District Law Association President Anna Morgan.
Anna congratulated Queensland Law Society all the 25-year and 50-year pin recipients at the recent Queensland Law Society Celebrate Recognise Socialise event at Burleigh Heads, which attracted more than 80 people.
“Some of you I’ve had the privilege of working alongside, others I’ve simply admired from afar,” she said to the 10 recipients in attendance.
“But each of you represents what longevity in this profession truly looks like: resilience, dedication, and a deep commitment to your clients and the law.
“You’ve built careers that have not only stood the test of time but have helped shape the Gold Coast legal community we are all so proud to be part of.”
Anna also took time to recognise practitioners who had “given so much of themselves to our local profession”.
“First, to Cliff Kroesen. Thank you for your leadership and tireless contribution over the past three years as President of the Gold Coast District Law Association. You’ve left big shoes to fill and a legacy of professionalism and generosity that we will all continue to build on,” she said.
“To Sam Layani, thank you too for your many years of service and commitment to the association. Your work behind the scenes has made a real difference.
“And to Mia Behlau, our Gold Coast voice on the Queensland Law Society Council – we see you, and we thank you. The countless hours, the volumes of reading, the travel, and the unpaid commitment can often feel thankless, but tonight we want you to know how deeply your contribution is valued. You’ve made our community proud.
“A special thank you also to Peta Miller, another proud Gold Coast lawyer who courageously nominated for the QLS Council. Peta, thank you for putting your hand up and I hope we’ll see your name on that ballot again next election!
“We are a formidable community – a force to be reckoned with – and our collective voice matters. As Gold Coast lawyers, we have an incredible opportunity to support, mentor, and uplift one another.”
Magistrate Magee gave the Toast to the Profession.
The final CRS event for 2025 will be held at the Sunshine Coast on 5 November.
