Gold Coast firm RedeMont had reason for a triple celebration recently with three law graduates admitted to the Supreme Court on the same day.

Hannah Harrison, Matthew Van Gemert and Jade O’Sullivan were admitted at the 17 November sittings with their RedeMont colleagues moving their admissions at Brisbane’s Banco Court.

Managing Partner Bryce Melville said he was delighted to see another three RedeMont graduates admitted as solicitors.

“We at RedeMont firmly believe in affording opportunities to new entrants to the legal profession,” Bryce said.

“Our well-developed intern and clerking programs allow us to nourish and develop a rich stream of first-rate practitioners and future leaders.”

Bryce moved Jade’s admission, who said “standing in the Banco Court and sharing this special moment with my family, friends and colleagues is something that will always stay with me”.

“Signing the roll and hearing the Chief Justice say the words that I am admitted to the legal profession was surreal and certainly memorable,” she said.

“I was privileged to have Bryce Melville move my admission. Bryce has overseen my development from intern to lawyer over the last couple of years and has consistently supported and invested in my professional growth.

“I am very grateful for the opportunities and guidance he has provided me and to continue to learn from him.”

Jade said she chose legal studies as an elective in high school which sparked her interest in the law.

“My law degree and time at RedeMont has solidified this career choice. I enjoy being able to make a difference for clients and effect tangible, meaningful results,” she said.

“My hopes for the future are to make a positive impact through my work and become a trusted legal professional. I look forward to building my career and to this next chapter in my legal journey.”

Matthew’s initial interest in the law was also sparked by legal studies at school.

“I undertook legal studies in high school and found enjoyment in that subject. Completing my law degree and also landing a position in the profession certainly reinforced my interest in and passion for the law,” he said.

Matthew asked Special Counsel Kerry Gibson to move his admission.

“I asked Kerry to move my admission as I was fortunate to work extremely closely and learn so much from her as we worked in such a tight-knit team,” he said.

“Her mentorship and guidance throughout the beginning of my career made it an easy choice to decide for her to move my admission.

“The speech given by the Chief Justice was extremely memorable and encouraging.

“I look forward to my career in law and I am excited for all the future opportunities this pathway could bring. I also hope to meaningfully contribute to many projects and causes in the future.”

Hannah said the admission ceremony was a highlight of her legal journey, as “I had envisioned my admission as a legal practitioner for such a long time”.

“The formality and solemnity of the proceedings was moving, particularly when the judges entered and departed the Banco Court,” she said.

“A poignant memory for me was standing up whilst my admission was being moved, and onlooking into the audience, where my family, friends, and colleagues shared the milestone with me.”

Hannah asked Senior Associate Zachariah Burridge to move her admission.

“I asked Zach Burridge, Senior Associate in the Deals and Private Capital discipline, to provide me the great honour of moving my admission,” she said.

“Zach is a colleague, mentor, and friend, who has been instrumental in my development both personally and professionally. Throughout my graduate year, Zach has provided me unwavering support, and I attribute much of my growth to his guidance and mentorship.

“I hold great admiration to Zach’s accomplishments both in Australia and in the US and look forward to continuing working closely with him as a lawyer in his team.”

Hannah said her decision to pursue a career in law was “underpinned by my ambition to make a positive imprint in the community”.

“An ancillary reason was to ‘open as many doors possible’ in my future endeavours through leveraging my education and desire to continue to learn. I am very grateful for the mentorship I have received as part of this undertaking, both in university and in my graduate year at RedeMont,” she said.

“In future directions, I hope to continue my work across the diverse sub-practice areas in the corporate and commercial team. More specifically, I would love to integrate my passion in terms of privacy in a commercial context, fostered through completing my honours thesis and Certificate of Data Privacy and Technology from Harvard University.

“I remain steadfast in my pursuit to foster legal interoperability in the digital sphere, and distilling the role of technology in empowering the rule of law.”
