NQ lawyer Darren Robinson, tribunal member Dr Bridget Cullen appointed to key positions within justice portfolio

Two esteemed legal figures have been appointed to the Board of Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) and the Queensland Law Reform Commission (QLRC).

Experienced North Queensland lawyer Darren Robinson has been appointed to the LAQ Board, while respected academic and tribunal member Dr Bridget Cullen will join the QLRC.

Both appointees bring extensive legal, governance, and decision‑making expertise to their new roles.

Mr Robinson is currently the sole Director of Salt Legal, a North Queensland criminal law practice. His three‑decade career spans investigations, policing, and legal advocacy. Before his admission as a solicitor in 2014, he served for 20 years as a Queensland Police Officer.

Since entering the legal profession, Mr Robinson has been an active contributor to the community legal sector. He has appeared regularly in jurisdictions across the state and has worked extensively with regional and Indigenous clients in North Queensland. His appointment adds valuable regional insight to the LAQ Board, reflecting his commitment to delivering essential legal services to disadvantaged Queenslanders.

Dr Cullen brings substantial senior decision‑making experience to the QLRC, having served with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and most recently as a Senior Member of the Commonwealth Administrative Review Tribunal.

Called to the Bar in 2000, Dr Cullen has taught evidence law at Griffith University for more than 25 years and has practised privately for more than a decade. She authored Griffith’s Evidence Law Course and brings academic and practical expertise highly relevant to QLRC’s current and emerging work.

Dr Cullen has been recognised for her contributions to the profession and community, receiving the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland’s Lawyer of the Year Award in 2019 and the Parents’ Special Commendation Award from Autism Queensland in 2025.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity Deb Frecklington welcomed the appointments, which were approved by the Governor in Council.

“Both the QLRC and LAQ are vital institutions in the justice portfolio, working tirelessly to respond to the needs of disadvantaged Queenslanders and maintain the integrity of our extensive statute book,” the Attorney-General said.

“I am pleased these organisations will now benefit from the depth of experience and expertise that Dr Cullen and Mr Robinson bring, and I thank them for their commitment to public service.”

Both appointees will start three‑year terms today, 6 March 2026.
