A $37.1 million commitment to clear Queensland’s DNA backlog and recommence forensic testing to deliver faster access to justice for victims was an important feature of the State Government’s 2026-27 Budget.
The budget, which was delivered yesterday, will continue to support clearing the DNA backlog and recommence forensic testing at Forensic Science Queensland, building on recent progress to reduce delays.
Criminal prosecution services will also be boosted across the state with $10.6 million for 25 additional Crown Prosecutors and solicitors in regional Queensland.
Two extra Deputy Directors of Public Prosecutions will be appointed and a digital case management system extended.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Deb Frecklington said the 2026-27 Budget was delivering to make Queensland safer.
“It’s important victims get answers sooner and Queenslanders can have confidence in the administration of justice,” she said.
