New Partners boosts resources, taxation skills at Dentons

Global firm Dentons has strengthened its capabilities in energy and infrastructure, and taxation, with the appointment of Partners Jack Brumpton and Pierre Chao in Brisbane.

Mr Brumpton (pictured) has advised on a range of matters including energy and infrastructure project development, project acquisitions and divestments, joint ventures, commercial contracting, regulatory and approvals frameworks, energy transition initiatives and emerging energy technologies.

He is recognised for his work on complex and first-of-their-kind projects and has advised on significant upstream oil and gas, LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, battery storage, energy transmission, offshore wind, carbon market and sustainable development projects across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

“I’m delighted to join Dentons at such an important and exciting time for both the firm, and for the broader energy sector,” Mr Brumpton said.

“Dentons’ energy, resources and infrastructure team brings together strong expertise spanning the entire project lifecycle. I look forward to working with clients on the opportunities and challenges shaping Australia’s future.”

Mr Chao advises across Australian federal taxation law, including income tax, capital gains tax, GST and international tax. He brings extensive experience in ATO reviews, objections and litigation, with broader expertise in commercial contracting, dispute resolution, funds management, wills and estates.

His work includes foreign currency exchange, international finance, family office structures, estate planning and succession planning for foreign nationals and families living in China.

“I’m delighted to join Dentons and contribute to its growing national tax practice,” Mr Chao said.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm to help clients navigate complex taxation, commercial and cross-border matters.”
