Trade mark email changes coming

IP practitioners and those who manage World International Property Organisation (WIPO) Madrid System International Trade Mark Registrations for clients should be aware of changes from 1 November.

WIPO has announced that all Madrid System international trade mark registrations must have an on-record email address for both the trade mark holder and the appointed representative.

Registrations that do not have an on-record email address by the deadline will potentially face difficulties in requesting updates to the registration records in future.

The recorded email address must be a different email address to the one used for the representative.

Practitioners should check each international trade mark registration under their management before the 1 November 2025 deadline to ensure that each registration has a recorded email address and/or update as necessary.

More information is available.
