Practitioners can view the Federal Court of Australia’s Employment and Industrial Relations National Practice Area Seminar, The Waterfront Dispute and Beyond: Federal industrial jurisdiction, on Wednesday, 9 September.
Presented as part of the Court’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, the seminar starts at 5.30pm and can be viewed at the Brisbane Federal Court Registry. To attend the Brisbane viewing, Queensland practitioners should email fca.50thanniversary@fedcourt.gov.au.
Former Federal Court judge, the Honourable Christopher Jessup KC, will draw on his experience as a former judge and specialist in employment and industrial law to trace the evolution of the Court’s industrial jurisdiction from the commencement of the Court to the present day.
The second part of the seminar will feature former Federal Court judge, the Honourable Tony North KC, in conversation with Justice Craig Dowling, exploring themes and issues arising from the Waterfront Dispute and how they have shaped the Court and its industrial jurisdiction.
The program will begin with opening remarks by Justice Darryl Rangiah and conclude with closing remarks by Justice Elizabeth Raper in Sydney.
The seminar will be held in person in the Ceremonial Court at the Federal Court of Australia’s Victorian Registry and livestreamed nationally. Registration is not required.
