A-G announces FCFCOA, AAT appointments

Law Council of Australia Immediate Past President Dr Jacoba Brasch QC is among four new judicial appointments to the Federal Circuit and Family Court (FCFCOA).

The appointments were announced today by the Attorney-General, Senator Michaelia Cash, who also announced that Justice Fiona Meagher had been appointed President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

Judge Alice Carter, Judge Bruce Smith, and Judge Alister McNab were appointed as judges of the FCFCOA (Division 1) in the Melbourne and Newcastle registries, while Dr Brasch was appointed a Division 1 judge in the Sydney Registry.
 
“Throughout her career, Jacoba has been a tireless advocate for Australian families and victim-survivors of domestic and family violence,” Law Council President Tass Liveris said. “Her knowledge of the law, particularly family law, is immense.
 
“She has contributed significantly and selflessly to our profession, not the least of which was serving as President of the Law Council of Australia.”
