Call for comments on ASCR amendments

Feedback is sought from practitioners and the public on proposed amendments to the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules (ASCR) 2012.

The Law Council of Australia, in consultation with Queensland Law Society, has reviewed the conduct rules for the solicitors’ branch of the legal profession and prepared draft amendments (tracked in red).

QLS has put that version forward subject to:

  • the inclusion of rule 29.12.5 of the 2012 Queensland ASCR to align with the law in Queensland
  • the inclusion of the definitions of ‘principal’ and ‘serious criminal offence’ in the Glossary that align with the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Qld).

Under section 223 of the Legal Profession Act 2007, QLS is required to conduct a public consultation on any proposed amendments to the conduct rules. The 28-day consultation period begins today (6 June).

All feedback should be sent to ethics@qls.com.au by COB 4 July 2022.
