The Law Council of Australia, in consultation with Queensland Law Society and other constituent bodies, has undertaken important advocacy work around the delays in the processing and issuing of Medicare claims history statements and notices of past benefits.
This advocacy is aimed at improving the processing of Medicare claims history statements and notices of past benefits, consistent with the timeframes set out in the Health and Other Services (Compensation) Act 1995 (Cth).
Following this advocacy, Services Australia has advised that it will be implementing a number of measures to improve its Medicare Compensation Recovery program, including:
- the development of a broader program strategy covering governance, remediation, resourcing, technology, communication and policy
- the modernisation of technology their staff use to process claims
- a review of their procedures and processes.
