Tom Sullivan KC joins Supreme Court

Leading construction barrister Tom Sullivan KC is Queensland’s newest Supreme Court judge.

His appointment was announced late this afternoon by Attorney-General and Justice Minister Shannon Fentiman.

Mr Sullivan, who was highly respected in his recent role as President of the Bar Association of Queensland, ran a commercial practice from Lucinda Chambers, where he appeared at both trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts and tribunals.

He is recognised for his expertise in large and complex building and construction disputes. With a focus on insolvency, construction, banking and corporations law, Mr Sullivan represented national and international clients.

“It is a true honour – and one with great responsibility – to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court of Queensland,” Ms Fentiman said. “Mr Sullivan has already demonstrated he has the capabilities to handle those duties to the highest level.

“Mr Sullivan has a distinguished academic history, having been awarded the University Medal at the University of Queensland and a Masters of Laws from Cambridge University, in which he took a first.”

Mr Sullivan went to the Bar in 1995 and took silk as Senior Counsel in 2008.
