Pizza and professionalism on menu

Barrister Peter Feeney, Kahler Lawyers Managing Director Chris Kahler and District Court Judge Dean Morzone.

Practitioners from the Far North gathered at Innisfail for legal lessons – and pizza – on Thursday night.

The Far North Queensland Law Association (FNQLA) presented Tips for Lawyers Following 40 Years at the Bar, at Roscoes Piazza, where Barrister Peter Feeney and Kahler Lawyers Managing Director Chris Kahler offered insights, with Judge Dean Morzone KC as event chair.

Chris said there were two key takeaways from the networking and CPD event, which attracted about 30 practitioners from Cairns and Innisfail.

One was to think deeply about a matter, taking great care to prepare a detailed statement; and the other was to remember the importance of legal and professional ethics rules, and abide by them.

“Behave like a lawyer, be treated like a lawyer,” he said.

Chris said the audience embraced the Q&A format he and Mr Feeney chose to present the session.

“It was more relaxed, less formal and more engaging, and this was well received,” he said.

FNQLA’s Christmas Lunch and Women’s Centre FNQ fundraiser, at Ochre Restaurant, Cairns, on Wednesday next week, has sold out. However, donations can still be made here.
