More court closures due to flooding

Due to the ongoing effects of the ex-Cyclone Jasper in North Queensland, the Acting Chief Magistrate has approved altered arrangements for Magistrates Courts in accordance with Practice Direction No. 11 of 2023 for today, 18 December.

These arrangements will apply to magistrates courts in the following locations: Cairns, Cooktown, Innisfail, Mareeba and Mossman.

Cooktown, Innisfail and Mossman Magistrates Courts will be closed.

Cairns and Mareeba Magistrates Court will be open to hear urgent matters only.

Urgent Domestic and Family Violence: Given the closure of affected court registries, parties will be unable to file any Applications for Protection Orders, including via electronic means.  Any person seeking to apply for an urgent Domestic Violence Order under the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act (Qld) 2012 will only be able to do so by attending a Queensland Police Station.

All other matters will be adjourned, and a Notice of Adjournment will be sent to parties.

Parties may appear by telephone. If people are unable to appear due to safety issues, flooding, transport problems or any other issue preferably contact your local registry by email or telephone. Matters will be adjourned a Notice of Adjournment will be sent to you.
