Attorney-General will not contest election

Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath has announced today she will not contest the October 2024 state election.

Queensland Law Society (QLS) President Rebecca Fogerty thanked the Attorney-General, who also holds the portfolios for Justice and Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, for “her commitment and service to the legal profession and law reform” and for the “strong and collaborative relationship”.



“During her term as Attorney-General, Yvette D’Ath has built a legacy of important legal reform that has benefitted the lives of Queenslanders and led to respectful and meaningful collaboration with QLS,” Rebecca said.

“The Attorney-General has always been willing to listen and consult with QLS on a wide range of issues affecting the legal profession and has been driven by achieving real, meaningful change, in particular her focus on justice system reform.

“From all of us at QLS, we wish you the best in your future endeavours.”
