National legal practice Colin Biggers & Paisley (CBP) is celebrating its 125th anniversary today as it reflects on its growth.

Since its inception, the firm has grown significantly, expanding its presence with offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Over the past 125 years, Colin Biggers & Paisley has evolved from a boutique Sydney practice into a leading national legal practice.

This growth has been shaped by strategic mergers with Monahan & Rowell, Hemming + Hart, and Logie-Smith Lanyon. Today, Colin Biggers & Paisley is recognised as a trusted adviser in commercial law with specialisation across the insurance, property, construction, transport and logistics, education, corporate advisory, technology, aged care, faith-based enterprises and government industries.

Managing Partner Nick Crennan said: “Reaching 125 years is a milestone of immense significance, and we are proud of the legacy we have built. Throughout our history, we have been steadfast in our commitment to excellence, integrity, and service – values that have distinguished us as leaders in the legal profession.

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our current partners, the vision of those who came before us, and the many people who have contributed their expertise and effort to our practice.”

The firm’s early leaders instilled a deep commitment to community and social responsibility. In 2016, this dedication was formalised with the establishment of the Colin Biggers & Paisley Foundation, which provides pro bono legal services, volunteering initiatives, and charitable contributions.

Since its inception, the foundation has contributed 64,168 hours of pro bono work, 5945 volunteering hours, and donated more than $2 million in support of marginalised communities.

“As we celebrate this 125-year milestone with a special event on 6 March, we also reflect on the responsibility that comes with our profession,” Nick said.

“We never forget that, as lawyers, we hold a privileged licence in society, and with that privilege comes a duty – to support those in need and give back to the communities we serve. Our commitment to this responsibility is stronger than ever, and it will continue to guide us into the future.”

CBP continues to evolve and is embracing innovation such as AI tools.

Deputy Managing Partner Andrew Murray said: “We have always been at the forefront of technological innovation. So much so that when existing technological solutions have not met our clients’ needs, we have a proven track record of developing our own platforms which do.

“Today, we are more than just lawyers – we are strategic partners, problem-solvers, and drivers of progress, committed to building a stronger future for our clients, colleagues, and communities. As we celebrate 125 years, we honour our legacy while embracing the opportunities ahead.”

The firm will mark its 125th anniversary celebrations with a signature event at the Sydney Opera House tonight.
