Rostron Carlyle Rojas Lawyers (RCR Lawyers) proudly announces the appointment of Jackson Freeman and Jim Coburn as Partners to spearhead the firm’s criminal law practice groups.
Jackson Freeman
Jackson joined RCR Lawyers as Partner – Criminal Law in March 2025, inheriting a busy practice from his predecessor, Tyronne Thomas. With Māori heritage and a dynamic background in law and arts, Jackson brings a diverse perspective and a client-centric approach to his role.
“I am honoured to step into this role and continue the legacy left by Tyronne,” Jackson said.
“My goal is to grow our practice by ensuring clients receive clear, strategic advice without the unnecessary legal jargon. I’m excited about the opportunity to build a practice that’s not only legally strong but also accessible and supportive.”
Jim Coburn
Jim, a criminal law practitioner with more than three decades of dedicated service, also joins as Partner.
An Accredited Criminal Law Specialist with the Queensland Law Society and the Highest Achiever in his class in 2014, Jim brings unmatched depth of knowledge and a team-focused leadership style.
“Everyone deserves a fair go, and I’m passionate about delivering a high standard of defence for all clients, no matter how complex their case,” Jim said.
“I’m thrilled to join Jackson and the exceptional RCR team as we aim to cement the firm’s position as a leader in criminal law across the state.”
Hamish Carlyle, Founding Partner of RCR Lawyers, welcomed the appointments saying: “Jackson and Jim represent the very best in criminal law.
“Their experience, dedication, and shared vision for our clients perfectly align with RCR’s values. We’re confident they will not only enhance our existing criminal practice but also drive new growth and opportunity in this space.”
RCR Lawyers has also bolstered its criminal practice team with the appointments of Fraser Petracci (formerly of KLM Solicitors) and Matthew Willshire (formerly of Ly Lawyers) as criminal law clerks.
“I want to thank Hamish, Greg and Paul for the faith they have placed in myself and Jim,” Jackson said. “Their support of our vision has been unwavering and we are excited at what the future holds for the team.”
