More than 350 members of the profession turned out for the fifth function to raise valuable funds for the aeromedical service to purchase two adult mannequins and one child mannequin for training purposes.
Acting Attorney General and Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie gave the welcome speech, talking about the opportunities, including for lawyers, ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“It is an exciting time to be in Queensland ladies and gentlemen,” he told The W Hotel audience.
“I’m talking about $116 billion of infrastructure over the next four years.
“The government’s focus is not only the four weeks of sport but the legacy from 2032 and beyond.
“New rail, new metro, new road projects … now it is the time to get involved. New investment opportunities – sport, culture, open space, hotels, accommodation at the Gabba Entertainment Precinct. There are so many opportunities going forward.
“If you’re a commercial lawyer in Queensland, doing commercial deals, doing PPPs, you’re going to do very well over the next seven years.”
Sports journalist Pat Welsh led a panel discussion with gold medal-winning Paralympians Alexa Leary OAM and Callum Simpson OAM. Alexa has first-hand experience with LifeFlight’s life-saving work after a bike crash that changed her life. She shared her gratitude and story.
Deputy Chairman of the LifeFlight Foundation Mike Stewart said: “We’re incredibly grateful for events like Law & Wine for LifeFlight, proudly hosted by Travis Schultz & Partners, which bring people together to make a real difference in the lives of Queenslanders.
“The funds raised from the night will help us purchase vital medical training mannequins for our aeromedical bases – equipment that enables our doctors, nurses, and paramedics to train for real-life emergencies and continue delivering world-class care.
“Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who joined us on the evening, our crews will be even better prepared to save lives right across the state.”
Managing Partner Travis Schultz said: “LifeFlight is a charity that is remarkably close to my heart. I am beyond grateful to the Brisbane legal community for their generosity in raising a record amount of funds this year for this crucial cause.
“I’m proud to see the camaraderie and commitment to giving back that exists in this profession. Thank you for the ongoing support.”
