Queensland Law Society Solicitor of the Year (Small Firm) winner Belinda Kochanowska has been named as a finalist in the 2025 Australian Human Rights Awards category of Law Award.
The Intrepidus Law Principal Solicitor is one of four finalists for the award, which will be presented on 12 December in Sydney, which coincides with International Human Rights Day.
With more than 20 years’ experience, Belinda is a respected voice in national policy reform and appeared before the Senate Standing Committee in relation to the NDIS Amendment Bill in 2024.
Belinda is nominated for “using the law to uphold disability rights and restore dignity and autonomy for clients in the NDIS”.
The award will be presented by Anti-Discrimination NSW in memory of Helen McKenzie, the Immediate Past President of the Anti-Discrimination Board who passed away earlier this year.
This year’s 20 finalists were selected from nearly 3000 nominations across five categories.
Australian Human Rights Commission President Hugh de Kretser said the awards recognised the tireless efforts of individuals and organisations working to advance human rights across the country.
“The awards shine a light on Australia’s human rights champions – individuals and organisations working across health care, education, law, the arts, the environment and more to improve the lives of others,” he said.
“This year’s finalists reflect the diverse ways people are advancing justice and equality.”
The event will also feature the annual Human Rights Day Oration.
