The Child Safety Commission of Inquiry is holding public hearings relating to legal processes and procedures for child protection orders.
The Commissioner, The Honourable Paul Anastassiou KC, will hear from representatives of the Director of Child Protection Litigation, including Director Nigel Miller, and representatives from the Office of the Child and Family Official Solicitor from the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety.
Commissioner Anastassiou said it was important to forensically analyse the effectiveness of current practice.
“We want to understand whether the current processes implemented in relation to child protection litigation are yielding credible decisions in which the community may have confidence and understand whether those most directly affected by child protection orders are properly heard and considered at all relevant stages of the process,” Commissioner Anastassiou said.
Commissioner Anastassiou said some issues raised so far in the Inquiry’s investigations included inaccuracies contained in affidavits and court submissions, decisions made without proper documentation and families feeling powerless to challenge DCPL decisions.
Proceedings commenced Monday and start at 10am until Friday 12 December 2025, unless specified otherwise on the Commission website, and proceedings are being live-streamed.
