The Federal Court updated two Practice Notes, Content of Appeal Books and Preparation for Hearing (APP 2) and eBooks (GPN-eBOOKS), on 1 December 2025.
The updates to APP 2 seek to ensure that the outline of submissions refers to evidence by reference to the Comprehensive Reference Index in Part B of the appeal book, and to ensure that all references in Part A and Part B where an appeal book is prepared in Format 2 refer to the PDF display number.
The eBooks practice note identifies the Court’s requirements in respect of court books, appeal books and books of authorities, and other documents such as affidavits, which are proposed to be provided in electronic format (eBooks).
The updates to GPN-eBOOKS seek to ensure that for affidavits where an annexure comprises a bundle of documents, the index to the affidavit is to separately refer to each document in the bundle.
Additionally, each document in the bundle is to be separately bookmarked using nested bookmarks as necessary.
It also seeks to ensure that for Format 2 the PDF display numbers correspond with electronic or any hard copy page numbers of the eBook.
