Fundraising efforts for the fifth annual Epic Walk for DV have taken a huge step forward with $50,000 raised at the recent launch event.
Organisers of the 5km walk, which supports the Women’s Legal Service Queensland, are hoping to raise $300,000 this year to allow WLSQ to answer more calls, provide critical resources and expand services statewide.
The amount raised at the February launch will significantly support fundraising efforts in the crucial final weeks leading up to the Brisbane walk on 22 March at New Farm Park.
At the launch event, WLSQ Ambassador Brendan Smith said the fifth anniversary of the walk was the opportunity to make it the biggest and best ever.
WLSQ CEO Nadia Bromley told the launch crowd: “What’s important about the Epic Walk is that thousands and thousands of people wearing purple shirts, walking through different communities saying violence isn’t okay”.
Walks are also being held at the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Whitsundays. This is the first time that the Epic Walk for DV has been held on the Sunshine Coast.
In 2025, the walk raised $327,000 to support women impacted by domestic violence.
In 2024–25, WLSQ supported more than 15,000 women with life-changing services, and their Statewide Helpline answered more than 15,000 calls from people seeking support – an average of 62 calls a day.
Registration on the day in Brisbane is from 6am with a 7.30am start, starting at the New Farm ferry terminal up to Teneriffe and back. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket, dogs, family and friends.
Registration at Burleigh Heads, Airlie Beach and Maroochydore starts at 6.30am.
WLSQ also has planned a Walk for Change in October and the annual stair climb, River to Rooftop, in August. The early bird sale for River to Rooftop ends 27 February.
