QLS President Peter Jolly has congratulated newly appointed Queensland Police Commissioner Brett Pointing, while recognising the service of retiring Commissioner Steve Gollschewski.
The appointment was announced by the Queensland Government today with Commissioner Pointing to take over the role for 12 months. He will be officially sworn in on Friday by Commissioner Gollschewski.
QLS President Peter Jolly said Commissioner Pointing brings extensive experience in policing, both in Queensland and nationally.
“Commissioner Pointing has dedicated much of his life to public safety and community service. I congratulate him on his appointment and wish him well as he steps into this important role,” Mr Jolly said.
“The legal profession and the Queensland Police Service each carry significant responsibilities within our justice system. We look forward to continuing a constructive and respectful relationship with law enforcement in the public interest.”
Mr Jolly also expressed his appreciation for outgoing Commissioner Steve Gollschewski.
“Commissioner Gollschewski has served Queenslanders for more than forty years. His commitment and contribution deserve sincere acknowledgement and thanks.”
Since his swearing-in in 1981, Mr Pointing has served in senior leadership roles including Deputy Commissioner, District Officer on the Gold Coast from 2004 to 2007. He has also served as disaster recovery coordinator for Bundaberg and the North Burnett.
Newly appointed Commissioner Pointing said it was an honour to be appointed to lead the Queensland Police Service.
“I am deeply humbled to have this opportunity, policing has always been in my blood,” Mr Pointing said.
“I am committed to strengthening community safety, stronger support for the frontline and investing resources where it matters most.
“It is great to be back in the Queensland Police, a place where I have strong personal connections.”
Commissioner Gollschewski announced his retirement earlier this month, marking the end of a 46-year career.
