‘Speed dating’ on offer at NQLA’s annual conference

Chief Justice Helen Bowskill, Chief Judge Brian Devereux and Chief Magistrate Janelle Brassington will speak at the conference.

Speed dating is a quirky addition to the North Queensland Law Association’s annual conference in Townsville this month.

“Speed dating with the Chiefs” will feature on day two of the 14-16 May event, offering attendees the chance to hear from Supreme Court Chief Justice Helen Bowskill, District Court Chief Judge Brian Devereux SC and Magistrates Court Chief Magistrate Janelle Brassington.

This one-hour session will share the limelight on the Saturday with an opening address from High Court Justice Robert Beech-Jones, who will provide insights from the country’s highest court.

Other speakers from the bench, the bar and the broader legal profession will cover a variety of topics, including ethics, true crime podcasts, committal hearings and practitioner burnout.

The conference, at The Ville Resort-Casino, includes three signature social events and is worth 10 CPD points.
