Guest speaker the Honourable Justice Sarah Derrington AM will present on Is Australian legal education still serving the needs of the profession? at this year’s Macrossan Lecture.
The TC Beirne School of Law at The University of Queensland and the UQ Law Alumni Association will host the lecture on Wednesday, 18 March, from 5.45pm-8pm at the Banco Court, Level 3, Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law, 415 George Street, Brisbane.
Justice Derrington was appointed to the Federal Court of Australia in 2018.
She was educated at the University of Queensland, from where she holds a BA (in French and German), an LLB (Hons), an LLM, and a PhD in marine insurance law. She was admitted to the Bar in Queensland in 1990 and as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the ACT.
Her Honour was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law in 2009, of the Nautical Institute in 2013, and of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018.
She is a Past President of the Australian Law Reform Commission. Justice Sarah Derrington was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2022.
Established in 1925 through a philanthropic gift from the Macrossan family, this lecture series was the first of its kind in Queensland and continues to foster discussion on issues of public significance.
It is also an opportunity for the law students who are being supported by scholarships to meet and thank the alumni.
