Clutch Legal has strengthened its litigation and regulatory practice with the appointment of Will Slack as Special Counsel to the firm’s growing Sunshine Coast team.
Mr Slack brings more than 15 years’ experience in complex litigation, including over a decade at the Bar and senior leadership roles within Queensland’s prosecutorial and regulatory framework.
His career includes more than 12 years at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where he rose to Senior Crown Prosecutor, as well as senior appointments at the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation and Parole Board Queensland.
That background gives Mr Slack a detailed understanding of how regulatory and prosecutorial decisions are made in practice.
Director of Clutch Legal Gabe Hutchinson said the appointment reflected the firm’s deliberate focus on building senior litigation capability outside the traditional institutional model.
“The Sunshine Coast has a sophisticated business community dealing with increasingly complex regulation, and Will brings credentials that are genuinely rare in this market: barrister‑level advocacy combined with first‑hand experience inside the systems our clients are often up against,” Mr Hutchinson said.
Mr Slack said his move to Clutch Legal was driven by a desire to put his government experience to work in a more hands‑on advocacy setting.
“I’ve spent much of my career inside regulatory and prosecutorial bodies,” Mr Slack said.
“That gives me a practical understanding of how decisions are formed, where pressure points arise, and how matters can be challenged effectively.
“Advocacy isn’t something you add at the end.
“It informs how a case is run from day one – how evidence is tested, how strategy is developed, and how risk is managed.”
Mr Slack’s practice spans regulatory and licensing matters, administrative law, QCAT proceedings, human rights and serious criminal defence.
His experience is relevant for businesses and individuals dealing with regulators, responding to statutory prosecutions or seeking to challenge government decisions, along with individuals charged with criminal and traffic offences.
