The Supreme Court of Queensland is undertaking a judicial exchange with the Supreme Court of Western Australia this month.
During the two weeks from 7 to 18 September, Chief Justice Bowskill will sit in Western Australia while President Thomson of the Western Australian Court of Appeal will act as a judge in Queensland.
The Judicial Exchange Program is an opportunity to examine practices for listing, managing and hearing matters in other state jurisdictions.
It is a practical means for professional development as well as improving efficiencies in the administration of the jurisdiction, to the benefit of the courts involved in the exchange, court users and the community.
Justice Thomson was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and President of the Court of Appeal on 11 June 2025.
His Honour served as WA’s Solicitor-General from 2018 to 2023, acting for the state on significant cases heard in the High Court.
Before becoming Solicitor-General, His Honour practised as an independent barrister from 2001, specialising in commercial law and public law.
His Honour was admitted to practice in 1995, after graduating from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) in 1994 and a Bachelor of Civil Law from Oxford University in 1996.
Justice Thomson was appointed Senior Counsel in 2012.
