The District Court of Queensland will conduct its second judicial exchange with the District Court of Western Australia this and next month.
From 17 August to 4 September, Judge Petrusa SC of the Western Australian jurisdiction will act as a judge in Queensland, while Judge Loury KC of the District Court of Queensland, will sit in Western Australia.
The Judicial Exchange Program is an opportunity for the judges to examine firsthand practices for listing, managing and hearing matters in other state jurisdictions.
It is a practical means for professional development as well as improving efficiencies in the administration of the jurisdiction, to the benefit of the courts involved in the exchange, court users and the community.
Her Honour Judge Petrusa SC is a graduate of The University of Queensland – Bachelor of Laws (1988).
Her Honour was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1992, and a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia in 1993.
She started employment with Clayton Utz Solicitors in Brisbane in 1990, and was appointed a crown prosecutor of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in 1993.
In 2001, Her Honour was appointed as a State Prosecutor of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Western Australia.
In December 2013, she was appointed Senior Counsel of Western Australia.
Judge Petrusa SC was appointed a Judge of the District Court of Western Australia, a Judge of the Children’s Court of Western Australia and a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 1 June 2015.
